Non-thermal emission from the plunging region: a model for the high-energy tail of black hole X-ray binary soft states

چکیده
ABSTRACT X-ray binaries exhibit a soft spectral state comprising thermal blackbody emission at 1 keV and power-law tail above 10 keV. Empirical models fit the high-energy to radiation from non-thermal electron distribution, but physical location of electrons reason for their index cut-off are still largely unknown. Here, we propose that originate within black hole’s innermost stable circular orbit (the ‘plunging region’). Using an analytic model plunging region dynamics distribution function properties particle-in-cell simulations, outline steady-state can reproduce observed features. In particular, our reproduces photon indices ? ? 2 luminosities order few per cent disc luminosity strong magnetic fields, consistent with observations state. Because originates so close hole, predict should strongly depend on system inclination angle hole spin. This could be extended tails 400 in hard binaries.

The Spectral States of Black Hole X-ray Binary Sources
A framework for the interpretation of the spectral states of black hole X-ray transients based on the diversity of accretion disk models is introduced. Depending on the mass accretion rate, it is proposed that the accretion disk is described by one or a combination of the following structures: optically thick disk, advection-dominated disk, corona-disk, and non-steady state disk. In particular,...
متن کاملX-ray emission from black-hole binaries
The properties of X-ray emission from accreting black holes are reviewed. The contemporary observational picture and current status of theoretical understanding of accretion and formation of X-ray radiation in the vicinity of the compact object are equally in the focus of this chapter. The emphasis is made primarily on common properties and trends rather than on peculiarities of individual obje...
متن کامل[oiii] 5007 Emission from the Black-hole X-ray Binary in a Ngc 4472 Globular Cluster
We present the discovery of [OIII] 5007 emission associated with the black hole X-ray binary recently identified in a globular cluster in the Virgo elliptical galaxy NGC 4472. This object is the first confirmed black-hole X-ray binary in a globular cluster. The identification of [OIII] 5007 emission from the black-hole hosting globular cluster is based on two independent fiber spectra obtained ...
متن کاملModeling the Non-Thermal X-ray Tail Emission of Anomalous X-ray Pulsars
The paradigm for Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) has evolved recently with the discovery by INTEGRAL and RXTE of flat, hard X-ray components in three AXPs. These non-thermal spectral components differ dramatically from the steeper quasi-power-law tails seen in the classic Xray band in these sources, and can naturally be attributed to activity in the magnetosphere. Resonant, magnetic Compton upsc...
